Jonathon Welch is a choral conductor and singer from Melbourne, Australia.
Welch was the 2008 winner of the Australian Local Hero Award[1] in recognition of his work with The Choir of Hard Knocks, a choir made up of homeless and disadvantaged singers from Melbourne. "Welch was compelled to form the choir after reading an article about a choir for homeless people in Montreal."[2] Welch also formed the Sydney Street Choir and has led other choirs including the Geelong Pop Choir and Pop Kidz, the Australian Pop Choir, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir and the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus[1] Prior to becoming a conductor Welsh was a tenor with Opera Australia.[3] He is also a member of the Australian Tenors.[1]
Welch recently starred as a judge on Battle of the Choirs and in 2009 started a new community choir called THE CHO!R.
